EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help your brain naturally reprocess distressing memories and experiences. Traumatic or overwhelming experiences can sometimes get “stuck,” triggering intense emotional reactions, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts long after the original event. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones—to help the brain effectively process these memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing healing to occur.
In therapy, EMDR typically follows a structured approach, beginning with creating safety and building emotional regulation skills. We then collaboratively identify the memories or experiences you’d like to work through. Using EMDR’s gentle approach, we’ll safely process these memories until they’re less triggering and no longer negatively impact your day-to-day life.
I integrate EMDR with relational therapy and nervous system regulation tools (including Polyvagal Theory and somatic techniques) to ensure the process feels supportive, safe, and tailored to your unique needs. Many clients find EMDR incredibly transformative, enabling them to move beyond past trauma and experience increased confidence, emotional freedom, and resilience in their lives.

What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?

If you feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, emotional reactivity, or difficulty trusting yourself and others, trauma-informed therapy can help. Trauma isn’t just about big, life-altering events—it also includes relational wounds, chronic stress, and experiences that shaped how you see yourself and the world.
Additionally, systemic oppression, discrimination, and marginalization based on identity can be deeply traumatic. Trauma-informed therapy provides an affirming space to process these experiences, recognize their impact, and develop tools for healing, self-empowerment, and resourcing yourself to navigate systems that are often slow to change. My approach focuses on nervous system regulation, relational healing, and reclaiming a sense of safety and agency in your life.

How do I know if I could benefit from trauma-informed therapy?

Therapy provides a space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns in a way that fosters insight and meaningful change. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, or relationship challenges, therapy helps you build self-trust, emotional regulation, and healthier relationships—so you can create a life that feels aligned and fulfilling.

FAQS

All sessions are virtual. This allows for flexibility, accessibility, and the comfort of attending therapy from your own space.

Do you offer virtual sessions or in-person sessions?

Yes! Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and more. Many clients appreciate the convenience, privacy, and comfort of attending therapy from home. Virtual therapy allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship and use the same relational, trauma-informed interventions—such as EMDR and nervous system regulation—that you’d receive in-person. Ultimately, the quality of your connection with your therapist is the best predictor of successful therapy.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Please complete your intake paperwork at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment.

How do I prepare for my first session?

The first two appointments will focus on gathering information about you and what is bringing you into therapy to allow us to collaborate on your goals and allow me to create a plan for how we can achieve those goals.

What can I expect during my first session?

I accept Aetna PPO, BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois PPO, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (virtual network), and UnitedHealthCare. If you’re using insurance, your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your plan’s copay, deductible, and coinsurance.

If you prefer not to use insurance, private pay options are available, which can offer greater privacy and flexibility in your treatment.

Do you provide gender-affirming care letters?

Therapy is a personal journey, and there’s no single answer to this. Some clients come for short-term support, while others engage in longer-term work. You’ll know you’re ready to transition out of therapy when you feel more equipped to handle challenges, trust yourself in making decisions, and are actively creating a life that feels fulfilling. We’ll check in regularly on your progress and goals to make sure therapy is meeting your needs.
