This page covers three ways clients typically pay: self-pay, out-of-network, and insurance. If you are unsure which applies, we can clarify it in a brief phone consult.
I am in-network with:
• Aetna PPO
• BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois PPO
• BlueCross BlueShield BlueChoice
• BlueCross BlueShield Blue High Performance Network
Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan’s copay, deductible, and coinsurance. Insurance billing typically requires a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement.
What to ask your insurer:
• Do I have outpatient mental health coverage for psychotherapy via telehealth?
• What is my copay or coinsurance?
• What is my deductible and has it been met?
• Do I need preauthorization or a referral?
• Are there session limits or telehealth restrictions?
• More privacy and discretion around billing and documentation
• Flexibility in session structure and pacing
• Extended EMDR sessions (self-pay only)
• Clear, predictable rates
• The option to avoid having a diagnosis submitted to insurance as part of your medical record
If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be reimbursed for a portion of your sessions.
How it works:
• You pay me directly the day of our session.
• I provide you a superbill at a frequency of your choosing.
• You submit the superbill to your insurer for potential reimbursement. Reimbursement varies by plan and is not guaranteed
Many clients are surprised by how strong their OON benefits are once they check.
What to ask your insurer:
• Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychotherapy via telehealth?
• What is my OON deductible and has it been met?
• What is my coinsurance percentage after the deductible?
• What CPT codes are covered for psychotherapy via telehealth?
• Is a diagnosis required for reimbursement?
• Is preauthorization required?
